Medical research – a burden on the shoulders of lab rodents

In his talk, Viesturs Eglītis will offer insight into the complex process of developing new medications: from preclinical trials on animals to the moment when a medicinal treatment becomes available to patients. The speaker will reveal how this journey sees the relentless efforts of improving the quality of life by scientists clash with the ambition to increase profit by pharmaceutical companies and increase awareness of the course of the transformation of laboratory solutions into actual products and their integration into the healthcare scene.

Viesturs Eglītis obtained a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from University College London. In his current role as a scientific consultant, Viesturs Eglītis is advising pharmaceutical companies on issues of global communication strategies in various areas of medical treatment.

The event will take place on December 15 at 18.00 in the Conference Hall of the Museum of Medical History on the 1st floor. Participation in the event with an entrance ticket to the museum: for schoolchildren – 0.70 EUR, for students, pensioners – 1.50 EUR, for adults – 2.50 EUR.
